- Another fun day out at The Pass
Good times were had this Saturday with a few friends in some really creamy snow. It wasn’t the deepest day I have skied but the snow was hero, and some of the bonier lines are now filled in. Here are a few shots from Rush and the Diving Board. Thanks to Eric for the photos.

- RIP Billy Poole
I want to extend my thoughts and prayers to Billy Poole’s family and friends. According to reports Billy died tragically while filming with Warren Miller Entertainment. I won’t forget the few runs I shared with Billy, who insisted on getting up side down on just about any feature on the hill. Like most top skiers I have met Billy was fueled by enthusiasm for the career he was growing into. I am sure Billy would like us to remember his skiing. Here are a few clips he left us with.

- Stone Skis?
I just read on Josh Spear’s blog that there is a company out there making stone core skis. Sounds totally ridiculous and it is!

- Steep – A Skiing Documentary
The Sony Pictures documentary Steep which was produced by the Peter Jennings documentary group and directed by Mark Obenhaus is hitting theaters next month. This is not your average ski-porn. It is a professional documentary designed to showcase the lifestyle, commitment and dedication of the top athletes in the sport of big mountain skiing. The casting is outstanding, Shane McConkey, Seth Morrison, Bill Briggs and the beautiful Ingrid Backstrom are just a few of the feature athletes in the movie.
It also features the late Doug Coombs. A leader and role model in the sport. Doug has a signification role in the film and is an exceptionally articulate and intelligent person; his spirit lives on with the athletes skiing the terrain in Alaska that he truly pioneered. Doug died heroically attempting to rescue his partner in La Grave France in the Spring of “06. His death had a significant impact on the sport of skiing and the movie. Please visit the Doug Coombs Memorial Fund and support Doug’s wife and child.
It’s important to state though that the film isn’t about Doug’s death, but rather about the sport as a whole and I am sure Doug would have wanted it that way. I am sure Doug would agree that dieing with your boots on is a sobering part of the sport, especially in the Alps.
Here’s the upcoming show times for the movie and a quick interview with the director:

- Chips Cashed
After a five year stint at a financial software company, I decided it was time to cash in my chips and take on something new. It feels good, and there’s nothing like a vacation with a truly clear head. Seeing as I live in what is essentially a high desert, a trip to the pacific rim sounded especially appealing. I decided first a cascade ski sampling was in order.
I capped it off with a trip to Maui to visit some family and do some island adventuring. Nothing like a vacation from my vacation, and of course the weather was perfect.
