• Colorado Crankworks

I went up to Winter Park this weekend to check out the Colorado Crankworks event. This has become one of the must-do comps for the slopestyle athletes and the course showcased the abilities of the riders well. In the end Brandon Semenuk took home the $6,000, tricking threes, flips and variations on all the hardest features. As an indication of how huge the course was, things took on a serious tone, when rider Alex Poch fell backflipping out of the soup bowl and broke his femur. Heal up man.

  • Published!

So I am excited to report I got my first ever shot in a magazine! I am in front of the lens not behind it for this one. Some of you may remember that a few months ago Eddie Clark took some outstanding shots out at the jumps near my place. Well one of the shots has made it into the Mountain Flyer photo-annual as a 2 page spread!

  • Private Ranch Trails

So this summer I was lucky enough to get hired to do some trail work for a former business colleague of mine. He has a gorgeous ranch in the northern foothills, and plenty of space for some built features. He’s just getting his feet wet in the DH scene so we proposed to build some pretty low consequence, but bigger stuff. We put in 3 large tables, and a really fun bermed single track entrance. Everything turned out great, and he hired us for a second round, which this time was an 8 jump mountain crossy line. We lined up a bob cat and went to town in a dusting of fresh snow.

Of course the setup is private so don’t expect to ride any of this any time soon :p

  • Don’t call it a come back

Last week I got my walking papers from the doc for my broken foot. Had a great session with friends out at Eaton and Micheal Chilcoat was there to capture the action. Check out his Flickr Album.

  • Lyons Outdoor Games – DJ Comp

Yesterday the town of Lyons put on their Outdoor Games. A great little grassroots festival that brings local kayakers, bikers, and outdoor enthusiasts to the town of Lyons. This year the event featured a dirt jump competition and local diggers Dave Camp and TJ Sharp spent the last few weeks putting in a set in the middle of a field. A few local landscaping firms helped them with some dirt, and they shaped everything up.

The local comp featured a bunch of my friends, some local BMX talent, and a few Lyon’s locals given’er. Little Matt Cordova took home the cash with his consistent tricks and high energy riding while his brother Joey was a crowd favorite with turn down backs, and 360 combos.  AJ Threw down a technical double tail whip for best trick of the day. Big ups to all the competitors and to Lyons. These DJs are here to stay, so I am sure we’ll be having some more fun a this spot.

  • Summer Nights – Eaton Park

It’s been digging season lately. My foot is getting a lot better but I am not quite cleared to ride how I want to yet. So instead of shredding with the boys, I am behind the camera. Eaton is running great.

  • Down for the count

I am pretty bummed to report that yesterday I made a poor decision while riding out at Eaton and paid the price. I launched crooked off a jump into space, and came down no where near the landing. I fell from about 15 or 20 feet to hard ground and fractured my 2nd-5 th metacarpals of my left foot. The impact was pretty intense and I actually heard the bones breaking as I hit the ground. I got up limping and asking for a ride to the Hospital.

I am confined to crutches for the moment, but I am hoping this won’t require surgery and I can be active again in a couple months. Who knows, maybe I will have time to post here a bit more.

  • A New Whip

So after the catastrophic failure of my old fork I decided it was time to replace the Dirt Jumper. I decided to go with the Transition Trail or Park. It’s a longer frame than my P1 allowing me enough room to x-up and a new manual balance point that I am still finding. Overall though the steel frame makes for a sweet ride and the Rock Shox Argyle is responsive and easy to adjust.

    Transition Trail or Park

I have taken the ride out now a few times, and have quickly stepped up to my regular lines, and even some new street moves. Here I am jumping the same jump that broke my last ride. Thanks to Shawn for the riding shot.
